What is URL QR Code?
A URL QR code encodes a web address so a phone camera can open it in one tap. It is the most common QR type: the payload is simply the link, so the code works forever as long as the page exists and needs no redirect service.
Common Uses for URL QR Code
- Posters and flyers linking to a landing page
- Product packaging linking to a manual or video
- Event signs linking to a map or schedule
- Business cards linking to a portfolio
Static versus dynamic URL QR codes
A static code encodes the URL directly and is free forever; a dynamic code encodes a short redirect the provider controls, letting you change the destination but tying you to a subscription. For packaging and print where the destination will not change, static is simpler and more durable.
Keeping the code scannable
Every extra character adds modules and makes the code denser, so shorten the URL before generating. Print at a minimum of 2×2 cm with a clear quiet zone, keep good contrast (dark on light), and test the printed sample with two phones before the full run.
